In a vibrant display of community spirit and commitment to education, the Groom A Soul Foundation recently concluded a successful week-long school activation outreach across several sub-counties in the Lira District.

Led by founders Irene and Moses Kayemba, the mission moved beyond their usual base in Central Uganda to address the unique educational and psychosocial challenges faced by learners in the North. The “School Activation” program was designed not just to provide material aid, but to “groom the souls” of the next generation through inspiration and mentorship.

Addressing the Need in Northern Uganda

Lira District, while resilient, continues to navigate the long-term effects of historical displacement and economic gaps that often lead to high school dropout rates. Recognizing that “potential is universal, but opportunity is not,” the Kayembas brought their holistic approach to several primary and secondary schools in the region.

Key Pillars of the Outreach

1. Scholastic Support and “The Basics”

The foundation team distributed essential learning tools to hundreds of students. From exercise books and pens to mathematical sets and school bags, the goal was to remove the small financial barriers that often keep a child from feeling confident in the classroom.

2. The “Soul Mentorship” Sessions

A highlight of the activation was the “Grooming Assemblies.” Irene Kayemba led heart-to-heart sessions with female students, focusing on menstrual hygiene management and self-esteem. Meanwhile, Moses Kayemba engaged the boys in dialogues about discipline, integrity, and the importance of staying in school to become responsible leaders of tomorrow.

3. Teacher Appreciation & Support

Groom A Soul recognizes that a school is only as strong as its educators. The team held brief welfare sessions with teaching staff, acknowledging their hard work in under-resourced environments and providing small tokens of appreciation to boost morale.

A Message of Hope

During the final assembly at one of the beneficiary schools, Moses Kayemba shared a powerful message with the students:

“Your current location in a rural village in Lira does not determine your destination. We are here to tell you that your soul has the capacity for greatness. All you need is the discipline to learn and the heart to dream.”

Impact Beyond the Classroom

The outreach also involved meeting with local community leaders and parents to emphasize the importance of keeping the “Girl Child” in school. By fostering a “Mother-to-Mother” and “Parent-to-Parent” dialogue, the foundation ensured that the impact of the visit would last long after the team returned to Wakiso.

The Journey Continues

The Lira activation marks a significant milestone for Groom A Soul Foundation as it expands its footprint across Uganda. For Irene and Moses, this is only the beginning of a nationwide movement to ensure that no child’s potential is stifled by their circumstances.
